Greater Vision Baptist Church is an Independent Baptist Church with a great vision-to make a greater impact on Owensboro and the surrounding communities.  The goal of our church is to reach lost souls with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to disciple those souls by preaching, teaching and training committed followers of Jesus Christ.  We believe the great need of America is JESUS.  Our’s is a church where everyone is welcome.  We conduct a spirited, traditional style public service supported by conservative, Christ honoring music that is alive and thought provoking.  Our pastor is a fiery preacher with a compassionate heart for people.

 At Greater Vision Baptist Church we preach Jesus!  You might say we’re committed to the old time gospel that has been saving souls, mending broken hearts, patching up marriages, establishing solid Christian homes and changing lives for over 2000 years.  The Word of God is paramount at GVBC.  We use only the King James Version.  We believe in the fundamentals of the faith, autonomy of the local church, soul-winning, separation, accepting people where they are, and leading them to where God would have them to be.

 About Pastor Russ

 Pastor Tim Russ was saved as a child, lead to Christ by his father, Pastor Gayle Russ of Evansville, IN.  He grew up in church and married his high school sweetheart, Marty (McDonald) in 1986.  Four years later just after their first son, Andrew was born Pastor Russ was called to preach.  The following fall, the Russ’s quit their secular jobs, sold their home and moved to Crown Point, Indiana to attend Hyles-Anderson College.  Pastor Russ majored in Pastoral Theology and graduated with honors.  For six years he served as an assistant pastor of the Boeke Road Baptist Church working as youth director and principal of Southside Christian School.  During this time, their second son, Jared was born.   In 1999 Pastor Russ and his family made another move of faith by leaving their home and moving to Danville, KY to found the Bluegrass Pike Baptist Church.  God blessed their leap of faith and in just 5 and ½ years the church grew from 0 to over 400 members with an average attendance of 240 and a high day of 425.  Thousands of souls were saved and many lives were changed in the short time the Russ’s were there.  Pastor Russ led the church through 3 phases of building and at one time Bluegrass Pike Baptist Church was the fastest growing “new” church in Kentucky. 

 In June of 2005 Pastor Russ accepted the call to pastor the People’s Baptist Church of Owensboro.  People’s Baptist, founded in 1947 had been a great church in the past (at one time it was the largest Independent Baptist Church in Western KY), but in recent years there had been on the decline.  Still, there were good people there who wanted to see God work again and were ready for a change.  So, after a short time, Pastor Russ led the church to totally reorganize, adopt a new charter and change the name to Greater Vision Baptist Church.  “Our name says it all.  Greater Vision Baptist Church is a church with a vision for the future!”, says Pastor Russ.  In just under a year we’ve seen God do some pretty amazing things.  Over 200 people have made professions of faith, the active membership has nearly doubled, and plans are now in place to relocate to a strategic location where we can have the greatest impact.  God is working at, in and through GVBC!  Come and see what all the excitement is about!
